Not only do I believe that YOU are the only person who can birth your baby, I also believe you already know how to do it. Yup, really.
That may not feel like something you can agree with right now. And that's ok. You’re probably here to look for support. Perhaps because you feel you don't have what you need. Perhaps because you're feeling uncertain about your choices. Perhaps that uncertainty has tipped over in to fear.
I cannot birth your baby for you. No one can. But I can be there with you. Encouraging you. Championing you. Reminding you of what you already know. My role is to gently and mindfully support you as you navigate the path ahead. By doing this I can support you doing what only YOU can do; birth your baby.
Some Things I believe..
All women and birthing people have the instinct and capabilities to birth their babies in a way which is right for them.
We take our whole selves in to birth. All that we are, all that we have experienced, all that we believe, our hopes and desires. There is great power in acknowledging this.
A big part of my role as your doula is to support environments so that the people in them can thrive – this includes the rest of your birthing team. I aim to work as a team with other care providers and trusted partners.
Being invited in to birth as a trusted partner is an honour and a privilege – I do not take this lightly.
I believe there is a doula for everyone. In making your decision about who is right for you, I’d encourage you to look with your heart as well as your head.
I may not be the DOula for you If..
You are looking for someone who will tell you what the best thing to do is and what the right way to birth you baby is.
You need someone to offer medical advice or hands on medical support during pregnancy and birth.
You're looking for someone with a fixed idea of what birth 'should' look like.
You’re looking to have an ‘unassisted’ or ‘free birth’.
TEam work makes the dream work
It's vital to acknowledge that I do not have medical qualifications or training. Whilst I know a thing or two about how birth works my role is NOT to provide you with medical advice or intervention at any stage during your journey in to parenthood and birth.
Instead, I aim to work in partnership with other care providers so that you feel supported and equipped with all you need during your pregnancy, birth and the early postnatal period.
