Birth Reflection Debrief

Available from March 2025

Whatever birth held for you, I’m here to listen and to offer a safe, supportive space for reflection. At a Birth Reflection Debrief, I will offer you the recognition, understanding and care that you may need.

Birth is a transformational life event. It marks the end of a pregnancy and the beginning of parenthood. Our babies emerge in different ways, in different spaces and contexts. Through my work, I know first hand that each birth is also experienced differently by each mother and family.

‘Safety’ is a word which is used a lot in healthcare and maternity. It is also a word which can hold different, nuanced meanings. If, for whatever reason, you feel your sense of safety was compromised during pregnancy and birth it can be the precursor to a number of complex emotions and challenges in your postnatal period. From bonding with your baby, navigating your intimate relationship, relating to your changed body, feeding challenges, self esteem and self image concerns, intrusive thoughts, anxiety and depression.

A Birth Reflection Debrief session with me can help with clarity and understanding, validating your feelings, offering a gentle way to reframe your experience and provide signposting for further support should you wish.

A Birth Reflection Debrief may help if:

  • You have unanswered questions about the specific events of your birth.

  • You feel unhappy that you ‘ended up’ with choices that were not your preference.

  • You felt undue pressure from others to do/not do certain things.

  • You feel like you weren’t listened to, your experiences minimised or that the care you received was lacking.

  • You’re experiencing feelings of shame, guilt or are feeling overwhelmed.

  • You have painful, overwhelming memories, and are experiencing physical symptoms of distress and trauma.

  • You feel like few people can really understand what you are feeling or that you lack the space to be able to talk about it.

What a Birth Reflection Debrief is not:

  • A simple reading of your hospital notes with a justification for what occurred.

  • A place for me to ‘diagnose’ any physical or mental health concerns. I am experienced in birth experiences, I am not a qualified medical or mental health professional.

  • THE answer to resolving what you may be feeling. Instead it is an offering to support your continued healing and processing with the utmost love and deep respect for you as a fellow mother.

  • It is not an attempt to steadfastly ‘close the book’. It is more often an invitation to open a new chapter in your journey of motherhood.

The Birth Reflection Debrief is 1.5 hours 1:1 session with me in a safe space.

If you would like additional 1 hour sessions with me, these are charged at £60 per session.

Because I believe that no one should suffer alone due to lack of resources, I also offer these sessions on a 'pay - as - you - can' basis. Please contact me for more details.

If you would like to 'pay forward' or donate a Birth Reflection Debrief session for someone else in need, I can also facilitate this. Just drop me a line.
